Tribune toilet suite from Impulse saves water with dual flush
(28/05/2006)
Climate change and global warming are putting increasing pressure on UK water resources. Water conservation and the reduction of consumption are now seen as primary objectives by the government and advisory groups.
The toilet is one of the largest users of water accounting for approximately 30-40% of usage in domestic properties and up to 90% in offices. The price of water supplied and sewage taken away have both increased by around 13% over the past five years.
The installation of meters on private home water supplies and the cost of water are both set to increase sharply over the next five years.
The majority of toilet cisterns installed in the UK provide a 7.5 or 9 litre single flush. Current regulations in force since 2002 require the installation of 6 litre single or 6/3 litre dual flush toilets only. The Tribune toilet suite from Impulse however surpasses this requirement by providing a 4.5 /3 litre dual flush with the back up of full WRAS certification. The Tribune suite has also been submitted for inclusion on the DEFRA Qualified Water Technology List.
Tribune was officially launched in the UK at the KBB exhibition in January. It is able to save a minimum of 25% of water on a full flush and provide improved performance by a combination of its WRAS approved EVO™ valve and the toilet pan design. Flushing performance is not diminished on the Tribune as the flush still provides 2.5 litres of trailing water to ensure waste is cleared through the soil pipe to sewer. In addition to its technical advantages the Tribune is a modern attractive design, compact with only a 620mm projection and meets all relevant British Standards.
Looking at the bigger picture, the large scale use of 4.5/3 cisterns and other water saving devices could also mean less sewage to treat and so provide reduced treatment costs or additional treatment capacity.
“Recent intense media coverage has highlighted the problems of water shortages in the UK, people are now aware that the problems are real and could hit them in the pocket. We are getting many enquiries about the 4.5/3 Tribune from Architects, Designers, Specifiers and the buyers in the public sector. I think it is now inevitable that some legislation will be forthcoming to ensure water saving devices are included in new build and refurbishment projects. We are confident in our design and quality and feel that our Tribune suite can make a valuable contribution to water saving. We aim to have four 4.5/3 suites available in the UK by 2007” commented Gary Hawkins, General Manager of Impulse.
