Chix and Mortar teaches ladies the basic skills of plumbing and DIY

Women are responsible for 60% of DIY purchases and single women account for 21% of UK households.

TV's favourite builder Craig Phillips will teach ladies in London how to maintain and decorate their own houses in less than a weekend in July. Craig will be at Richmond College on 11-12th July and 18th-19th July teaching decorating techniques, tiling, laying floors, changing taps and general maintenance.

Craig launched Chix&Mortar in April this year to provide women with the confidence and skills they need to understand, diagnose and undertake home improvements. While the courses are designed around the needs specified by women, men of course can attend too.

Phillips says : “We want to help women become independent in diagnosing and tackling problems in their home – so we’re teaching the basic skills of DIY and decorating in female friendly environments. In these current times people do want to try to do more themselves rather than have to pay someone else to do things.”

The weekend workshops provide hands-on training above and beyond books and websites..

Training modules cover a range of basic diagnostics and skills in plumbing, wall and floor tiling, laying floors and skirting boards, remedial plastering, painting, wallpapering and decorating as well as covering health, safety and general tool care. Graduating participants will be issued with a certificate.
